There is a problem with names that repeat through the generations. And, when they name places in the New World after their homes in the Old World, the chances for confusion increase.
"Skye" is the name of an island in the Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland. From your post I gather that "Skye Glen" is a place in Nova Scotia (I don't know it). "Alexander of Skye" came to Lochaber, in Scotland, from the island of Skye and married Anne MacBain. His dates aren't given in Mabou Pioneers, but three of their sons and Anne's brother fought at Culloden in 1745. I don't think he was alive to emmigrate from Scotland to Nova Scotia in 1830. Another Alexander Beaton, probably a descendent of Alexander of Skye, is the immigrant you are looking for. I believe you'll find that the Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Before Confederation has the Alexander Beaton you are looking for in Volume II.
