I've heard that some sort of genetic testing can be used to determine the probable racial origin of one's maternal line. (The material in the mitochondria (sp?) is apparently passed from mother to daughter almost unchanged.)

It would seem that if we can identify someone whose mother's mother's mother's... mother is Austin's wife, the tests can resolve the Austin Bearse controversy. Or does that take all the fun out of genealogy?
