Hi Dean,

The 1847 edition of the Wilkins Updike book has no mention of either Bearse/Bearce or of Hyanno. The history of the fall of the Narragansetts, up to the sentence "For his conscience sake, (many differences arising)..." that you have transcribed appears in the introduction, as a prelude to the history of the church, rather than as a separate chapter late in the book as it seems to in the 1907 edition. The link to the 1847 edition is here http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=BookList&dbid=16247&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 but requires a subscription.

Best wishes,
David
