Hi Dawn,
Just came across your message. I totally agree with you. I don't think it really matters how the surname was or is spelled. There are alot of us Barss's/Bierce's/Bearse's/Bears/Barr's etc....right here in Nova Scotia. This family really got around! Probally a little bit in anyone from the Barrington or Liverpool area of the province.As with many surnames, spellings frequently vary.
I have been searching for my great-great grandfathers parents, his name was Robert Barss, born abour 1834 and died in 1877 on the ship "The Codseeker". At that time Robert was living in the Barrington area. Have you ever come across his name? My grandmother was a Crowell from the Barrington area and I've done alot of research on the Crowell's. I'd be more than happy to share my info with you.
