I have to disagree with the statement that there are no Bearse/Bierce in NS. Joseph Bearse born 1708 at Hyannis, MA. He married Lydia Dean and had a son Joseph who was baptised April 1754. Joseph Sr. died and Lydia married Thomas Annis and they moved to Liverpool, NS around 1760. This Joseph became a well-known privateer. He married Elizabeth Crowell and had 14 children (ALL IN NS!) He spelled his last name Barss.
David and Rebecca Gammon Barss also moved to NS where their daughter, Hannah Barss was born 5 May 1773 in Liverpool, NS. There is a picture of her in the archives at Liverpool. She is an ancestor of my husband. The change is spelling seems to have occurred between the third and fourth generation from Augustine (Austin) Bearse.
