First I'd like to quickly say that b4 anyone dares claim that European Christian's efforts to "civilize" and Christianize the natives of the America's was all "just" and "with good intentions", as Traci pointed out, learn what Pizarro ACTUALLY did to the Incas upon their conversion to Christianity!
But a history lesson is not my point here bc there is no way that i can present evidence as eloquently as has been done already by Keller and Brown. I simply want to know what, if anything, should be my beliefs about Austin Bearce and his wife, as I, too, am am 8th GGdaughter of Austin Bearce and his wife (whoever?) via their daughter Rebecca Bearse who is said to have married William Hunter and had daughters Alice and Rebecca Hunter. Alice married Job Randall, Rebecca married John Bumpas. John B. is my 1st cousin, 7GR. Alice Hunter and Job Randall had Judith Randall, who married Jeremiah Bumpus. Jeremiah and Judith were my 5th GGparents.
I've read Brown's argument against Rom ancestry and Native American marriage of Austin(Augustine) Bearce and i read Keller's rebuttal. and both make very valid points. at this point i am assembling my family history by finding out what is out there and has been recorded as to the identity of my forebears and then going about my business of finding proof of the claims myself. I believe i have quite substantial proof of the fact that one of my 8th GGfathers was indeed Edouad Bompasse of the Fortune bc I have found his name and names of various descendants in many sources myself and the same names seem to appear together in regards to who married whom. But I am just beginning my quest in search of verification of Austin Bearce's ancestry. From the website wherein i first encountered the name of Austin Bearce and read of the story (as cited by Brown - the F.E.Bearce story about Zerviah Newcomb's diary) and read that that manuscript was on file in the official records of the State of CT I believed it MUST be true. A. W. Brown - am i to understand from your post of 3-8-2001 that this alleged manuscript by Zerviah Newcomb is NOT on file via the state of CT?
please note, i am not pointing fingers or questioning other people's research at this time. i'm just trying to figure out what it is i am supposed to "assume" based on the bulk of the research that has been done thus far.
thank you
