I am looking up some information for a friend who is a descendant of Austin/Augustine Bearce who came toMassachusetts on the ship Confidence in 1638. He was supposed to have been deported (from England?) because he was a gypsy. Apparently he was an "outcast" and could not find a wife among the settlers, so he married and Indian. Is this the same man you have mentioned here. The earliest Bearse my friend knows of is Charles who was born in 1740 in Halifax, MA, was in the Revolutionary War, and moved to Hebron ME in 1780. He was said to be a descendant of Elder William Brewster through his mother's side.
