Samuel Cross Beam, 1824-1880, NJ>IL

Working on ancestry of Samuel Cross Beam, b. 12 Aug 1824 in NJ, d. 8 Mar 1880 in Mt. Pulaski, Logan, IL. Samuel md Mary Louisa Turley 1849 in prob. Logan co., IL.

I believe Samuel to be the son of John Beam & Eliza Cross who were md 5 Aug 1822 in Somerset co., NJ. Other researchers state he had brothers Will and John.

I found an 1850 Census in Springfield, Sangamon, IL that supports this:

Beam, John 52 laborer b. NJ
" , Eliz. 50 b. NJ
" , William 28 laborer b. NJ
" , Jane 28 b. PA [William's wife Jane Grubb]
" , John 22 carpenter b. NJ
" , Augustus 20 laborer b. NJ
" , Alford [Alfred?] 18 laborer b. NJ
" , Eliz. 15 b. NJ

This John Beam people try to attribute as John McClure Beam (son of Jacob Beam & Rachel McClure), but I don't believe him to the be same person.

I found the John Beam/Eliza Cross family in 1830 Bernards Twp., Somerset co., NJ [listed as Beem] and 1840 Springfield, Sangamon, IL. In 1830 there was a Jacob Beam close to John's age enumerated on the same page. It is possible that they are brothers.

Any help on these lines would be appreciated.
