Hi Kathryn My name is Tony Beadle, originally from Otago but recently shifted to Victoria, Australia. I am descended from a Thomas Beadle who arrived in Dunedin with his wife and children from Surrey in 1873. His wife Emily Palmer Sopp and he were married in Putney in 1860. A James Beadle was already in Dunedin at the time they emmigrated and he may have been a brother (this is only a guess at present as I would need to follow up a census lead in England). As for your Alfred, a couple of years ago when looking for an Albert Edward Beadle born 1876. I got a copy of an entry for an Alfres's birth in Dunedin. This is what was on Alfreds birth entry: Birth Date: 1876 February 9, Great King Street, Alfred, Male, Not present, Father: James Beadle, carpenter 49years, born Stockwell England, Married 1854, January 7th Deptford, England. Mother: Harriett Beadle formerly French 47years, born Aldborough England. Birth registered by James Beadle Father of the child in Dunedin. If you get a copy of your grandfathers death/marriage certifiacte from NZ, it should list his parents. Once you have his parents names, try for their death certificates and it should tell you how many children they had, and possibly their names. I see by Electoral rolls in 1938 Alfred (joiner), Alice Bassett (married), Alfred Gaynor (clerk) and Alice Mildred Joyce (spinster) were all enrolled and living at 21 Driver St, Dunedin. Alfred and Alice were there in 1911. I may have a couple of other things in my own notes. Tony Beadle Notify Administrator about this message?
