I just found an 1880 census with Dempsey Bean listed as head of household, wife Mary from Brinkly, Calloway Co., Ky. I believe Brinkly is now Kirksey. Also listed was a Juda Beach, a African American, "servant", and a white farmhand. No other slaves on here. Is Juda possibly a member of Mary Jane's family? She was from Henry Co., TN, not far away from Kirksey/Brinkly. Both Juda and Mary's parents were from VA.
I found this very interesting.
