DNA Project update: Baze/Baize & Bays/Bayes families are related!!
There has been an amazing new development in the ongoing DNA Project for both the BAYS/BAYES lines and the BAZE/BAIZE lines of families:Both sets of families have been found to be genetically related! - at least those who descend from Peter BAYES (aka Peter BAYS) (est. b.ca1690) on the one hand, and Abednego BAZE (b.ca1783, VA) and his presumed brother John BAIZE (b.1781, VA) on the other!
(Many thanks to David Baize for starting the DNA Project and allowing us to accomplish in several months what we couldn't have accomplished in a lifetime! We hope that more people will continue to participate. There is still much left to discover!)
The finding is explained as follows:
A 6xgreat-grandson of Peter BAYES/BAYS (I), who is descended through Peter (I)'s son Peter (II), and thenthrough Peter (II)'s son William BAYS, was Y-DNA tested in the Baize/Baze DNA Project, and was found to be a 12 for 12 marker match with both a 4xgreat-grandson of Abednego BAZE (through Abednego's son Hyrum BAZE) and a 4xgreat-grandson of John BAIZE (through John's son Isaac BAIZE).[We presently believe John is most likely a brother of Abednego's, but he could also be a first cousin (for example).]
The DYS values are located on the Project website here (and reprinted later below):
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Baize/index.aspx?fixed_columns=onhttp://www.familytreedna.com/public/Baize/index.aspx?fixed_columns=on
Note that on the chart shown that the gggg-grandson of Abednego BAZE with the 12/12 match is #27662;the gggg-grandson of John BAIZE is #85190;and the newly tested 6xg-grandson of Peter BAYES/BAYS (I) is #94478.(Another gggg-grandson of Abednego, #85922, is descended through Abednego's son Jefferson Peter BAZE, Sr., and is an 11 for 12 match with the prior three individuals. This slight mismatch is not considered significant since the marker involved, DYS439, is more prone to "rapid" mutation.)
(To everyone who participates, please be sure to fill out the "Most Distant Ancestor" info on the chart!Otherwise, it's extremely difficult for people to make sense of the data, as you can see!)
So, we can now say (with a good degree of probability) that the descendants of Abednego BAZE and John BAIZE share the same paternal line as that of Peter BAYS/BAYES (I).However, without further genealogical info coming to light, and/or additional Y-DNA testing of larger numbers of individuals, we cannot yet be 100% certain that the Baze/Baize descendants are *directly* descended from Peter, as opposed to being descended through an unknown brother or unknown uncle (for example) of Peter's.
Peter BAYES (I) is believed to have been a French Huguenot, and is registered as such with The Huguenot Society (Manakin), but we are still hoping to see the evidence that was used to support that claim. If it's true, then Peter may be the actual, original immigrant ancestor for both the related BAYS/BAYES and BAZE/BAIZE lines of families.
[The key task now, for the BAZE/BAIZE side of the family, remains to discover exactly how Abednego BAZE and John BAIZE are linked to Peter (I).If, for example, Abednego is directly descended from Peter (I), then that might make Peter a great-grandfather of Abednego's (or grandfather or greatgreat-grandfather at the extremes, I suppose).
At this time, we only know that the mother of Abednego (and possibly John) was named "Hannah" (maiden name uncertain), and that Hannah had remarried a David WALKER by 1805 (she is given in some of the marriage records for her children as Hannah BAISE-WALKER by virtue of the prior marriage to Abednego's father). The given name for Abednego's (and John's) father remains unknown.]
Here are the results from the chart on the Project website for the 12 marker values of the three, identically matching individuals (note that individual #27662 actually took a 37-marker test but the additional values are not shown below):
For DYS marker #'s 393, 390, 19, 391, 385a, 385b, 426, 388, 439, 389-1, 392, and 389-2, test result values are:
13, 25, 13, 10, 16, 19, 11, 12, 12, 13, 11, and 30, respectively.
