Bazan Family name

The name Bazan appears in my wife's family tree. Her grandmother's mother had this name. Her grandmother passed away in General Trevino, Nuevo Leon, Mexico in approximately 1976. This is a relatively short distance from Roma, Texas that you mentioned. Coincidentally my wife's grandmother was a Bazan and my wife's grandfather was a Garcia.(You mentioned Garciaville)

Several of my in-laws beleive that it is of Portuguese origin but I beleive differently and think that it is of Spanish origin. I personally am heavily involved in my own family's geneology research.

I have found many accounts of this last name (Bazan) in the Latter Day Saints Data Base of records in Mexico. This name is prevalently found in church records in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. In my research of family origins I have found that not so common names such as this one and those found in a great concentration are probably related to one another.
