Susan, Yes, i know the difference which you are speaking. And in my years of research i have found it to be about 50% one way and 50% the other. I will give author's notes 2,3,and 4 from "Baylor's History of the Baylors" by: Orval W. Baylor published 1914. NOTE 2 Page 9 John Baylor (II) was accompanied by his brother Robert (I), the former going up the York River and the latter up the Rappahannoch River. NOTE 3 Page 10 Gregory Baylor was not the son of John Baylor (II), according to some traditions. Those who say he was not, claim him as the son of Robert Baylor (I), who came to Virginia with his brother John (II), (see note 2) and married Hannah Gregory. NOTE 4 Page 10 There is still some mystery regarding the sons of John Baylor (II) and Lucy Todd O'Brien. Some members of the family declare that Gregory Baylor (I) was the son of John Baylor (II), as this book states, but others deny this and classify his as a son of Robert Baylor (I), who came to Virginia from England and was a brother of John Baylor (II). We have been led to believe that John Baylor (II) had other sons of whom there is no record and thus we account for the great mass of Baylors in America, and can only say, that whether they are decendants of John (II) or Robert (I), nevertheless they came from the same stock in England. Susan, I do not know the Whiting line, and it is one of those families I 've been wishing to get around to working on soon. When I first started genealogy research in the '70s, i only did enough to connect surnames to my Garnetts, so as to present a tree to my father before his death. Surnames: Peyton, Ware, Muscoe, Byrd, Madison, Lee, Waring, Boulware, Bolling, Mercer, Patton, Baylor, Minor, Bankhead, Payne, Selden, Brooke, Pendleton, and so many more. Then, for many years, I put aside the Garnett research because my mother wanted the same for her family tree. Photos of the Cemetery - great - if its not much trouble, please. Regards, Sue Garnett Notify Administrator about this message?
