Hello Andrea:I know so little about my Bayliss ancestors.Eleanor Bayliss was my grandmother. She was Church of England. Her father,Joseph Bayliss (I am not 100 sure that Joseph is his name) was a fusilier for the Belfast Barracks.
He was an English (Welsh) soldier serving in England.I used to have a picture of him in his uniform standing next to a cannon.I leant it to my aunt and she died.Needless to say, my cousin (her only child) knows nothing of the picture. It was a great loss to me.I have the names of the children of Joseph Bayliss. Here again, I may be missing a few or have a name wrong. They are:Joseph, William, Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Thomas, Eleanor and Samuel...no James.
Elizabeth had a hair lip and everybody treated her as if she had a severe deformity. My aunt told me they called her poor Lizzy. She never married.Samuel married (I don't know her name) and had three children:Arthur, Samuel and Mona. Now you know as much about my Bayliss ancestors as I do.
I did contact (or rather she contacted me) Elizabeth Bayliss McCormick. She was a granddaughter of the Samuel Bayliss listed above. She lives near Liverpool.I do have to sit down and write her and send her family written info.
You see, we have just discovered each other and I am so very excited that I found family.
My mom ran away from home and only kept in touch with her older sister, Ann.Ann is the one that I loaned my photo to.
I would be delighted if any of this information is familiar.
In the meantime, I continue my search.
Thank you for getting ahold of me.I will copy your email just in case something matches in the future.
I live in Hastings, Minnestoa, USA.
Carol
