MARIE BAYLES 2/10/11
Marie, my email to you bounced back with the note "unavailable or access denied."SO...here's what I wrote in that email:
You present an intriguing possibility. There is a problem, however, with your Charles Bayles’ birthplace being NY.In every mention of Eve/Evey’s husband [unnamed except for that Philadelphia listing], he was born in NJ, not NY.I refer to census listings for Evey’s son Alfred M. Bayles; he states that his father was born in NY.
There are many factors to consider, not the least of which is the fact that the only places I have found Evey Bayles living were in Beverly, Burlington co., NJ and Philadelphia, Philadelphia co., PA, over 100 miles from Jamaica, Queens co., NY on decent roads.Another factor is that only one of her children bears the same given name as Charles or his siblings. That is pretty unusual for those times, although not impossible, of course.Evey’s children were Alfred M., Joseph, Sarah Ann, and Charles W., the youngest.
And one last problem and that’s my fault for stating “around 1800.”I should have said “around 1790 or before,” because Alfred M. was born in 1816.I seriously doubt that his father was only 16 when Alfred was born!
All that having been said, I have printed your GenForum post and will keep it with my “possibles” until either proved or disproved. And, I do thank you for contacting me through GenForum.
I leave Sat. Feb. 12 for a three-week trip, so I’ll be unavailable until after March 5.Please hold any further ideas until then.
