How certain are you of the surname SEXTON?I have her name as Adaline CREAMER.I have an original copy of the book by Eliza Bayles St. John.My book originally belonged to the Paton family. In the book Mrs. Henrietta Bayles Paton stated in 1903 that Mrs. Adaline Creamer Bayles was still living.Mrs. Adaline Bayles lived in Ridgewood, NJ, at that time.
It is possible there were two Stephen BAYLESes of about the same age in the same location, both married to a lady named Adaline but it seems unlikely.I can't say that the surname CREAMER is absolutely certain but I believe Mrs. Paton knew of the lady as having that maiden name.it also agrees with the name "Phobe CREAMER".I believe that Phobe was probably Adaline's mother.
Stephen was, I believe, the son of William BAYLES and Abigail MAPLE. 1850 Middlesex Co., NJ, census, Brunswick TWP, p.182, 373/373:William Bayles 75, Farmer, 4000; Abigail Bayles 65; Margaret A. Bayles 30; Margaret Maple 88; Lucinda Griggs 16.All were born in NJ.William was the son of John BAYLES and Susannah BURTIS of Middlesex Co., NJ.
I have more information on the ancestors in this line if, as I suspect, Stephen was William's son.
