Anne,
I think I know why all the dates concerning the Robertson/Bayes/Bays family are very confusing & don't make a lot of sense.

1- Joseph Bayes/Bays ,Sr.,Married a Ann(Susannah) Robertson b.abt 1740 They married in Halifax Va. 22mar1757. Their daughter Sarah Bayes/Bays married William Ussery, Jr. ( of my Peter Ussery & Amelia Jarvis Line)
Ann (Susannah Robertson was the daughter of a James Robertson & Rebeckah Royster of poss. Coleraine Ireland.

2- Joseph Bayes/Bays , Jr.,(son of Joseph,Sr. & Ann(Susannah) Robertson,) married Mary Robertson (in the Israel Robertson/Nicholas Robertson line., Kindeace, Scotland Robertsones.(My Robertson line) They married 24jun1787 in Chesterville) That's where Israel/Nicholas Robertson were living at this time.(Chesterfield)

These two Robertson Families were not related as far as I know. One from Scotland/one Ireland. Two of the James Robertson's (Ireland Robertson) married other Robertsons possibilities in the Nicholas Robertson (Scotland Robertsones) line. I think also that's why there is so much confusion on the General James Robertson family.
I am finding the Robertson line is a complex line. So many Robertson males & spread all over the Southern part of the States.

Thanks
carolyn
