I don't know the answer to your question but as late as last night I was working on the identical person. I am reworking my BAYS tree and am not inserting anything without a reliable source. So my new tree is looking a little scrappy right now. However, I have confirmed one important thing: The BAYS were pretty a unimaginative group of folks; They would take a perfectly good name and then use it again and again and again; same generation, same family, subsequent generations. It will take some fine hand work to unknot all of their naming threads! I would refer you to the deed section of the Russell County VAGENWEB page. They have about 5 different documents that involve the BAYS family, most of which involve naming heirs/children. One of these documents, executed in 1815, show that James BAYS was married to Ruth BAYS. With a little luck/patience we may be able to show that the 1850 census Ruth is the widow of James. I don't know. In a couple of weeks I am making my annual trek to Scott/Russell/Washington counties. I will be hot on the trail of these elusive BAYS and will be glad to share any discoveries on my return. Best regards, goodbays
