WHO are his parents and siblings???? John BAYES, born 4-12-1812 in VA. Family called him Johnnie. A farmer from Virginia who moved to KY in the late 1830's or early 1840's. He died during a flood of the Big Sandy (date unknown, but after 1858) in Johnson County, KY. Unable to determine whether he is of the BAYES families of these Virginia counties: Scott Co, Russell Co, or Lee Co. There were BAYS families in Pittsylvania Co., VA, too. Other spelling variations of this surname exist in Northumberland Co. and Fauquier Co. and Bedford Co., VA. Can't find a connection to any of them (yet!). There are so many John Bayes/Bays/Baze/Bayse/Baize/Basye to choose from! Have noticed some other BAYES men from Johnson Co., KY who were born around the same time who might be siblings of John. Are William BAYES or Charles BAYES his brothers?? HELP!! He married Margarett "Peggy" WEBB,(born 9-29-1820) on 4-9-1845 in Floyd County, Ky. (Could he have been married to someone else prior to this???) Their homestead was in Johnson County, KY. Peggy was the daughter of William Webb Sr and Nancy Green. (She's Loretta Webb Lynn's great-aunt.) Maybe their children's names could give an indication as to the family lineage? Do any of these names look similar to other BAYES families of the time? John & Peggy's children were: John Preston Martin BAYES married Sarah Catherine GEORGE in Johnson County and had my gr-granddad, William Edmond BAYES. He and my gr-grandma, Amanda JOHNSON, (d/o Richard Epperson JOHNSON and Lavina PRESTON) were from Paintsville in Johnson Co., KY. In case this helps connect - Let me note that Sarah is the I'm very frustrated. I hope someone notices some familiar names and can offer some help! Any TINY bit of information is appreciated. Please post here or e-mail me.
