Hello fellow Bayard/Byard researchers, May I suggest you have a look at the discussion on the Byard forum of genforum, where we have had quite a discussion about the alleged connexion between our families and the Chevalier. Here is something posted there by a very helpful French speaking person about our ancestors variable spelling "About the orthographe and the spelling of the
name (surname), you must be very "prudent".
Before 1800 the transcription were phonetical.I see Bayard, Baillard, Bayart etc...... in french is the same prononciation.and i thing that in english Bayard phoneticaly could be write Byard...
Serge Bayard,E-mail : bayard@iba.be
URL : http://www.iba.be"; The author of this statement is certain that 'Bayard' is simply a locality name which many might have used without being related to the Chevalier.
