Thomas Bay II, Robertsville, Mo. (1803-1895)
I am doing some research on a house and land that has been in my family for a long time. (Dates back to 1803 in information that I have on hand.)The house is in Robertsville, Mo. and was awarded to Thomas Bay II when the U.S. bought the Louisiana Purchase from the French in 1803.Thomas Bay II's father, Thomas Bay I, fought in the Revolutionary War (so I have been told by family members) and died shortly after the war ended, leaving the 40 acres of land to be inherited by Thomas Bay II.My Great-Great-Grandfather, Christopher Bay, inherited the house from his father, Thomas Bay II, after Chris's brother, Ulysses, ran off for California.I have memories of going to this house as a child every year for Easter and have never thought about the history of the land.If anyone knows anything of the family, or the history of this land, I would be glad to hear (read) about it!
