Hi Audra,
I've been having fun digging through my database for this family:
I found the reference for the marriage of Samuel BAXENDALE to Rachel PARKER in the GRO (St.Catherines House) marriage index.
Year: 1849 (June quarter), Registration District: Halifax, Vol:22, Page:168
You would need to quote all this information to get a marriage certificate from the GRO.

I then looked for a christening for Samuel abt.1829:

It looks as if Samuel born 1827 died and they named the next son after him.
Samuel's marriage certificate will confirm whether his father was William BAXENDALE
They were non-conformists,so they could be christened and buried by their chapel but would have to be married by the Church of England.

In the 1830 Pigot's Commercial Directory of Halifax is:

At this point things get REALLY confusing!
There are two possible christenings for William, four years apart, with parents of the same name, and children
mostly of the same name and born in the same order.
The only way to distinguish these families apart is the fact that they used different churches.

These are not one family because marriages are recorded for each of the siblings.
Those from the Welseyan Chapel christened their children in the Anglican Church subsequently, but the Booth Independent lot stayed non-conformist.

The Wesleyan William BAXENDALE ch.1798 would have been too young to marry Hannah in 1816 so he must be:
BAXENDALE Williamm. 27 AUG 1820HalifaxYorks Grace SMITH
BAXENDALE Williamm. 27 AUG 1820HalifaxYorks Grace SMITH
which means that the Booth Independent Chapel family are the ones we want.

I don't have another James BAXENDALE marrying a Sarah in my database. (they'll be out there somewhere)

but relying on indexes this far back is getting a bit optimistic.
All the above would need to checked against the original records to confirm them as accurate.
