His parents are unknown, he is believed to be the original immigrant.John Moone in 1635 lists amongst his headrights Auth. Jordan and Rich. Bevin.
It is important to realize that the year 1635 has great significance in Virginia records. It is the year that the land office in Jamestown was organized. Before 1635 land patents were issued in one copy to the land owner. If he lost it too bad for him.But in 1635 a number of attoneys were sent to Virginia and began to organize the government of the colony. They created the county system, the militia, the tax system and began the land office making two copies of each land patent, one given to the land owner and another copy kept as loose sheets in the land office. At this time some landowners reappeared at the land office and re-patented their lands in order that official copies were recorded. Thus most Virginia patents bear the date 1635 or later and only a few appear in the records for before 1635. In the 1650's the loose sheets were gathered up and bound into patent book 1, and after that date only an abstract copy of the patents was recorded into the land books of the Jamestown office.
Richard Bevin may have arrived in Virginia anytime between 1625 and 1635 but his headright was not recorded until 1635.
Mary Bevin appears in the 03/11/1652 headright of John Blackborne of 100 acres for the transport of himself and Mary Bevin.
