Bausch, Michael - Philadelphia shoemaker 1860-1868
Am researching my great great grandfather Michael Bausch from Hesse Germany. He is listed in the 1860 census as Michael Bouch and he was living with his wife Varenica (Veronica?) from Baden and his two children, Erwin (Erwein)b.1858 and Peter b.1859 - both born in Philadelphia.According to Philadelphia City Directories of the time, Michael was a shoemaker/bootmaker and lived at 38 Catharine St.He died sometime in 1868 leaving behind a widow Mary (Bausch).Mary continued to live at 38 Catharine St. until at least 1872.Am not sure what happened to Veronica or the two boys in the intervening years but Erwein turned up later living in Philadelphia in the 1900 census with a family and Veronica Blickhan, his mother, was living with him. At that time Erwein listed his occupation as candy maker. If anyone can fill in any of the missing parts of this story, I would like to hear them. What became of the youngest son Peter Bausch?I suspect he and Erwein were pretty much on their own after the breakup of the marriage between Michael and Veronica.I did find a P. Bausch of the right age living with a group of boys in the 1870 census but have no direct evidence that this is actually the Peter Bausch I would like to trace.I know Erwein and Peter were not close during their lifetimes suggesting maybe the boys went their separate ways fairly young.
