Hello: Yes, Myrtle Nichols Baumbach was my
father's sister. She and Oscar had 4 daus:
Virginia Rose who m 1) Van Dyke and 2) Behrens;
Luella May m Steele; Eunice Irene m a Rigg or
Riggs; Dorothy m a Hagen. This information is
to be questioned, because 3 daus. declined to submit family sheets to the late John Ingles Jr., the compiler of the Descendants of Daniel L. Nichols (and Eunice Merryfield) book. Myrtle and my father John Elmer Nichols were the children of
Melissa French and the Civil War veteran Joseph
Nichols of Sparta, Monroe, WI. I submitted the book to the LDS Salt Lake library and it is on
microfilm at Family History Centers. Also,my
brother Joseph Nichols and I donated a copy to the local historical/genealogical society at
Sparta. Baumbach/Nichols descendants may want to have that information. Unfortunately, Wisconsin records show our grandfather Joseph Nichols, as deserting, but he did not; he was hospitalized. My nephew, Major John W. Nichols was able to prove by documentation that this is incorrect. Ethel
