Westmoreland Co History
Rev. John Nevin Bauman, pastor of the Grace church, Jeannette, was born in Zwingle, Iowa, 1860, s/o Frederick Christian and Elizabeth Jane (Cort) Bauman, natives of Ebershuetz, Germany and Monongehela City, PA., respectively.

The progenitor of this family in America was John Henry Bauman (grandfather) who was a native of Ebershuetz, he emigrated in 1816, settling in Bellebrook, Green Co., Ohio. He was a member of the Reformed Church. His wife Christina Magdalena Bernhardt, also of Ebershuetz. Children; Frederick, Christian, Sophronia, Rosanna, John, Catharine, Mary, Hattie, and Martha.

Frederick Christian, eldest son of John Henry, was born in 1826. In Oct 1855 married Elizabeth Jane (Cort) born in 1836, d/o Daniel and Sarah (Bughman) Cort. Her family have been natives of Westmoreland Co. Her grandparent Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Cort, are buried in West Newton, and her great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cort are buried at Brush Creek Cemetery.

John Nevin, son of Frederick Christian was educated in Iowa. In Nov 1891 he married Ada Alice Barnhart, of Mt. Pleasant, d/o John and Elisabeth Barnhart. Children; Frank, 1892-1892, Frederick Barnart, 1896, John Nevin, 1899, and Paul Albert, 1904
