The ancestors of the Bauman family emigrated from Germay. Henry Bauman, the grandfather of Judge Dennis Bauman, was among the first settlers of Northampton Co north of the Blue Mts, in Towamensing township. His family consisted of 2 boys and 2 girls. At one time, because of the Indians he was forced to send his family to Easton. When his son arrived at the age of maturity they were married. The oldest, John D., father of Judge Dennis was born about 1772 and in 1796 settled in a place now known as Bowmansville. He was the father of 12 children, 8 sons and 4 daughters, 5 of whom are now dead. Henry Bowman, his brother settled on a farm about 1 mile of the Lehigh Gap. He reared a large family and he died at the age of 92.
Dennis Bauman, the 7th in succession, and the son of John D., was born April 10, 1819 at Bowmansville, Northampton Co., now Carbon Co. He married Mary Kress, d/o Henry, of Cherryville, Northampton Co. The issue of this union was 4 sons and 1 daughter. His 4th child, Albert L., died at age 18

On the 19th of Nov, 1807, a deed of partition was made by the brothers Nicholas and Jacob, and land was divided. Jacob married the d/o Henry Bauman, and in the division took the propert on the creek, including the mill, and lived at the mill and kept it until his death, in 1813, aged 53. He left 7 children, Daniel, Mary C.,w/o John Kuntz, Jacob, John, Stephen, Simon and Solomon.
Daniel, the eldest, was born in 1794 and emigrated to the West. Jacob married a daughter of Henry Bauman, lived at the mill about 30 years. Member of the Evangelica Church.
The date of settlement of the Baumans is unknown. Honstettler Bauman is a name found in an old draft as owing land belonging to Bernard Bauman. In 1781, Bernard Bauman took a warrant of 100 acres of land at the Lehigh Gap. On the 18 Nov 1808, he sold to Joseph Bauman 30 arces.
Nothing is known about the descendant of Honstetter, Bernard or Joseph Bauman. Henry Bauman, suppoed to be a brother of Bernard, and had 2 sons, John D., and Henry Bowman.
John D. Bowman, was the father of 8 sons-Jacob, John, Jonas, David, Henry, Peter, Dennis and Josiah.
Jacob settled at Millport, John and Dennis at Parryville, Jonas, David and Peter at Mahonoy City, and
Henry at Bowmansville.
Of the daughters of John D., Kate married Jonas Peter, and settled in Heidelberg, Susanna became the wife of Jonas Andreas of E. Penn, Sarah married Daniel Kieper of Allentown, and Rebecca married James Dinkey of Easton.
Henry Bowman, brother of John D., settled at what was known at Hassertville, and owned the land on the other side of the river, opposite where his son Joseph now lives (1884). Daniel, Adam, William, and Joseph are sons of Henry. Of the daughters of Henry, Sarah married Reuben Hagenbuch of Lehighton, Susanna married __ Berlin and kept a tavern at Kresgevill. Another married a Mr. Butler of Newquehoning, Rachael married Jonathan Haintz of East Penn. Mary w/o August Lehr and Rebecca married Dr. Yarrington of Easton.

Bowman, Henry, his father John D., was born in the year 1722. In 1844 he married Lavina Peters, d/o Henry and Christina Peters of East Penn. Henry was the father of 9, 5 passed away. The 4 remaining are Victor married Isabella, d/o John Balliet. Roger married Sarah Jones, a sister of William Jones, a 3rd son married Clara Eckert of Parryville, Fulton single (1884) Members of the Lutheran Ch.
Bowman, Abraham, of Edelman, Northampton Co. In Plainfield twp, Northampton Co was born Feb 12, 1866, s/o Amandus and Elisabeth (Frankenfield) Bowman. He married Christina d/o Jacob Itterly.
Monroe Co
Bowman, David W. of Paradise twp., Monroe Co belongs to a leading pioneer family of his locality, his grandfather was George Bowman, native of Northampton Co, having been first to make a permanent improvements at Paradise Valley, where his remaing years were spent, he married Christina Blatz and had 5 sons, John, David, Jacob, Samuel and Georgeee. There were also 2 daughters, Margaret who married John Harps nd Anna, wf of Aaron Kouch of Paradise.
David Bower, father of David W., was born Sept 27, 1808 in Plainfield twp,, Northampton Co, but his youth was spent of Swiftwater, Monroe Co. He died March 3, 1888, his 1st wife was Susanna Anglemeyer, died May 3, 1848. Children; Maria, w/o James Kintz, Elisabeth, w/o Maurice Learn, Matilda w/o Anthony Kintz, Hannah w/o Ispen Price, Christine, w/o John Hambon and Aaron married Martha Lovett and lived in Iowa. He married 2nd to Elisabeth Werkheiser, d/o George and Catharine and they had, Susannah married Francis Mackis, of Saylorsburg, Monroe Co., David W., Amanda married Adam Fromfelker of Scranton and they had 2 daughters (Myrtle and Bessie), Lena married David Arnold and had (Beulah, Mimie and Ethel), Sarah married William Learn, of Paradise, Monroe Co and had (Pearl and Edith).
David W., was born March 22, 1852 in Pocono. Member of the Reformed church at Paradise. In 1874 he married Annie McCarty of Dover's Home, Monroe Co, d/o Daniel and Annie. She died in 1885 and he married 2nd to Marietta Miller, d/o Manassah Miller, of Pocono twp. His 2nd wf died in 1896 leaving no children. His only daughter was Agnes Bowman who was born Aug 12, 1876.
