My husband is the great-grandchild of Joseph Baum but some of our info differs slightly so it's been confusing. We show Joseph being born in Hoppstatan Germany on 11-7-1836 (not 1827). He arrived in the US on his 21st birthday. He married Caroline Hart of St. Louis on 1-8-1867. He had 8 Children, only 6 of which we have been able to identify (4 proceeded him in death and we have found notes in his personal writings with names and dates of only 2 of them). Children were: Jennie (Mrs. Harry Marks), Tillie (Mrs. B. H. Lowenstein), Gertie (Mrs. Louis Oppenheimer), Nathan, Moses (first child of Joseph and Caroline, born 8 months after their marriage and died 10 days later), Esther (lived only 1 month, 12 days). We have a birthdate for Leopold (assuming this is brother Leopold per your post) as 1/3/1840 and a death date of 8/26/1897. We have correspondence signed "L. Baum and Bro" from Chicago, IL. We have also correspondence regarding the health of brother "Leon" (don't know if this is short for Leopold?). We have many letters from Louis Hart who refers to Joseph as his brother...assume this is brother-in-law, therefore brother to Caroline and Teresa. Louis moved to Durango, Colorado in the late 1800's to open a general merchandising store (seems all the men in this family for a couple of generations owned clothing/boot/shoe/general merchendising stores). Additional correspondence from Dan Baum in Browning, MO, Joseph Baum in St. Louis (we're not sure if this was his own stationary from a stint in St. Louis or if there was in fact another Joseph Baum), a cousin Joseph Baum from Meridian, MS and a cousin Elmwood Kronenberg from Paris, KY. All of this correspondence is in just one box...we're hoping to find much more to get more names and try to establish relationships. Also, many of the letters are in German so we have no idea what they say.

Would love to compare notes with you!

Stephanie Baum
