An invitation to all Baughan (and all spelling variations) researchers, We, the descendents of Littleberry Tucker Baughan of Henrico County, Virginia have initiated a Baughan Family DNA study and invite ALL Baughan males to have their Y-chromosome DNA tested and compare results with all other male Baughan Y-chromosome DNA test results. (When I say Baughan, I mean Baughan, Baughn, Baughen, Boughan and all of the other spelling variations.) We have officially kicked off this study as of July 7, 2005 as a Y-chromosome DNA sample from a male Baughan descendent of Littleberry Tucker Baughan has been sent to the Family Tree DNA lab for isolation and sequencing. The DNA on the Y-chromosome is passed down from grandfather to father to son from generation to generation unchanged except to the extent that mutations occur. Geneticists are able to estimate the frequency of mutations that occur within the Y-chromosome and are able to use that information to estimate the number of generations past that two Baughan lines shared a common ancestor. As a result, only Baughan men can provide the DNA necessary to compare the various Baughan family lines. Are the Georgia/Alabama Baughans related to the Cumberland County, Virginia Baughans? Were Tucker Baughan of Cumberland County and Littleberry Baughan of Henrico County really brothers? Where do the Hanover County Boughans fit in? Are any of us related to the Essex County Boughans who can trace their cavalier lineage to the 1650s in Virginia? Are the Boughans and the Bowens related? That is, is there any truth to the story of the three Boughan brothers who came to Virginia and changed their name to Bowen to escape persecution from the followers of Oliver Cromwell? How can we weed through all of the various Baughans that appear and disappear in old public records? Where in Great Britain are the Baughans from? Where are your Baughans from? Where do the Baughans fit in anthropological terms? These are just the types of questions that this DNA study hopes to be able to illuminate. Come join us. Please visit our website for more information about our study and how you can participate: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=B82254&special=True&projecttype=S. Baughan women…You have a very important role in this Baughan family DNA study. First, you can help to identify the Baughan male descendents for you lineage and convince those men to provide DNA samples for testing. In addition, any Baughan descendent can support the study by contributing to the funding of tests within you line of descendency. The Baughan Family DNA study has a general fund, operated and managed by Family Tree DNA, to which you can make contributions. Then send me an e-mail with your instructions about which test kit against which you wish to apply your contribution. This is a very exciting and fascinating adventure on which we are embarking. We are going to learn many very interesting and sometimes shocking things about our relations and ancestors. Please take a look at the above mentioned website and come join us in the worthwhile study. Notify Administrator about this message?
