Hi Merle,

What a SURPRISE!!!!! I tried calling you last Friday to see what information that you have. I will probably still call you. I have become very excited on our genealogy because I have been able to trace the Umbarger/Umberger (mom's side) to three generations in Germany & Switzerland. They originally were Swiss. When we could only trace them to ggg grandparents it was not as exciting.

Even with spaces and you have helped in your message to me that may help fill in the spaces. I can not figure out the full bloodied dutch relationship yet unless the BACHs came from Holland to Germany. I still have not been able to locate the whatever original Dutch name?/Bach/Baugh Dutch Bible that my grandfather Philip Crockett Baugh gave to one of his brothers. It was in the Baugh trunk that my parents have.

You may already know this that I have written below and there may be errors in this - please correct me if I am wrong: -

Adam's parents were Bartholomaeus & Margretha Bach. Adam's father's nickname was Bartle. I have discovered that Bartles & his wife & two children came over on the ship Friendship- Henry Beech was the Captain. It left on Feb 1, 1738 and arrived Sept 20, 1738 - It listed those men who were over 16 years old (listed no women or girls) Adam Bach was 18 and Bartle Bach was 54. Bartle Bach was born around 1684 either grew up in the easternn Franconia region or from the Rehnish Franconia regionand lived in Eggenstein, Germany.

He was a blacksmith (kinda like the rest of the Baugh's who worked with horses in Virginia)- as you know our whatever gg grandfather Michael was a Blacksmith. (I didn't go into detail about George Alexander Baugh - I should have - maybe we could have gotten a response from someone.) Anyway, I believe the first known record of Bartle may have been his marriage which is listed in the Eggenstein church record book (which I presume is Lutheran). It says: July 28th, 1711 "Barthel Bach, frankish blacksmith and Margretha, daughter of Michel Ebert, a citizen and shoemaker."

The church record book lists for children

Johann Georg b.Feb 1st, 1712 d. Sep 14th, 1712

Eva Catharina b. Jan 17th, 1717

Hans Adam b.Dec 2nd 1719

Elisabetha b. Dec 1727 d. Oct 1732

Adam Bach (18yo) signature in Pennsyylvania and his signature on his will is the same. I want to find a copy of his will - I think it was signed in June 1792 and probated in Dec 1804. He signed his will Adam Bach. It is in Wythe County. Do you have a copy of it?

Merle, what is so interesting to me is that the Bachs/Baughs lived in Annsville PA and the Umbarger's settled in Lebanon, PA (about 20 miles away from each other) and they were both German Lutheran's and some of both descendents ended up in Wythe County. I wonder if they traveled together. Jacob Baugh son of Adam was in the Virginia Militia about 1774 and about 1777 Adam & Michael Bach signed a loyalty oath to Maryland.

I don't know who Adam was married to the first time or however many times possibly the first from someone from Pennsylvania but he married Magdalena (Molly) Wolfe of Wythe County. His brother Michael (Mikel) married her sister Catarina Wolfe (this is the one that Buena Vista's descendents says that our Michael Baugh's parents are - but they were married in 1803 and had their daughter in 1806 but our Michael Baugh was born 1823) is that what you have?(His wife, Sally, was a few years older). That would make Michael being born 20 years after Mikel & Catarina were married and that just doesn't sound right. I agree with what you have found. I am glad that you found the second marriage certificate with Michael's parents listed.

Back to what you were saying about our Michael Baugh, I had just found out this weekend that he did remarry after Sally and who he married but I didn't know what year. I understand that she was buried with her husband and family and of course Michael was buried beside Sally. Looking at the Michael's tombstone, did you know that Sally's parents are buried down a little to the right of Michael. I didn't realize her parents were buried so close. I guess you already knew that because of what you have written about Gasper & Catherine Ritter. Mom had made me a copy of what you wrote about Sally. It is so interesting! Your research has helped me so much.

Have you checked the Ritter & Wolfe forum out. I have learned a lot from both of those and maybe you can help clarify some our the questions and searches.

Are you related to the Umbargers at all?

I was hoping that you could make it to the reunion. We had a good turn out. My family and I had just gotten back from Michigan for 6 days so no one wanted to go away again except me so I traveled with my parents. I had a wonderful room over at Big Walker. It was Room 20 upstairs. The antique furniture was beautiful and the room was so private especially with the balcony. I think I am going to request it next time. It didn't have a phone (which I was surprised since the other rooms do) but Ray has new phones and he said one will be in there next year. The food that they had catered Saturday was the declicious. I believethat it was the best caterer that they have ever gotten. Glen Ray had suggested them. We really missed you. I am hoping that some of Buena Vista's descendents can come at the next reunion - as you know, they have never been represented at the reunions. I pray that you both can come too next year. It is gonna be awesome.

God bless you.

Love,
Sandy
