Alexandria Virginia/Washington D.C. was the first place I ever came (arrived here in 1974) where people knew how to pronounce the name correctly (like jaw). That was only because Sammy Baugh had been a quarterback of not all that recent vintage with the Washington Redskins. Most of the time I get either baff/laugh or bough, as in limb of tree.
