I have seen that Baugh in Welsh can be interpreted as coming from the word for small, which is Bach. It is possible that some people named Baugh from Wales got their name that way. I prefer to stick to Baugh coming from bay -- namely an inland bay, valley, or cove (related to den). Actually Bach in German means stream or brook, and Bau means den. The above German use of Bach and Bau exactly parallels all the other English, Norse, French, and Gaelic references I have seen for the names Waugh and Wauchope. All of these basically refer to someone who dwells at a hill-recess.
