Hume
Re the Baugh's of Stokesay abt 1650 to 1750
I have obtained further information from the Public Records Office UK relating to Rowland and Mary Baugh.
Mary's maiden name was Folliott she was born in Ballyshannon Ireland daughter of Thomas Lord Folliott of Ballyshannon, Inchmacsaint,Donegal. She married Rowland Baugh 23/Sept/1692in Onibury and died 4/Jan/1738 at Stokesay, an inscription to her and Rowland remains at the Stokesay church
Thomas lord Folliott was son of Henry Folliott 1st Lord of Ballyshannon b. 1569 Worcestershire, Died Ballyshannon 10/Nov/1622.
The Folliott's of Worcestershire resided at a place named Onibury in a family estate called Ferney Hall.

What proves interesting, is that Baugh family resided in Gloucestershire.

Worcestershire, Gloucestershire,Shropshire, and Herefordshire are all very close together and shire boundaries change considerably over time.

Searching records for the nobility of the day, as Rowland was noted as "armiger" and "Squire".

We are unable to trace the Baugh surname further in Herefordshire or Shropshire. However in the Heraldic Visitations of Gloucestershire (availavle on line)the family is recorded.

Further to the Baugh's the Folliott's are to be found in the Visitations of Worcestershire their Heraldic record indicated intermarriage between the Baugh and Folliott families at an earlier time.
There is considerable history belonging to thr Folliott's of Ballyshannon their influence and land holdings are well recorded and form part of the history of the Plantation of Ireland.

There are many prominent names amongst the Ancestors of the Folliott's.
-Bishop Hugh Folliott of Herefordshire
-The Lygon Family of Madresfield Worcestershire.
and are tracable on the net through the familysearch site of the LDS.
The father and mother of Henry Folliott (First Lord Ballyshannon)b.1569 d.1622
are Thomas Folliott of Priton Worcestershireb.1556 d.1617 and Katherine Lygon b.1558.
Katherine Lygon is daughter of William Lygon b.1512 Madresfield Worcestershire and Elanor Dennis of Gloucestershire daughter of Sir William Dennis and Ann Brkley.
William Lygon's father was Sir Richard Lygon of Madresfield Worcestershire b.1490 d.1556 his mother was Margret Greville.

Each of these family names are tracable well back in British history.

I have now obtained copies of the wills of
-Lord Thomas Folliott of Ballyshannon
-Rowland Baugh d.25 Sept 1668
- Thomas Folliott Baugh of the Stonehouse d.29/March/1757
.
It was Thomas Folliott Baugh d. 1757 who came into financial dificulties and about whose will an ACT was written to enable the settlement of the family estate. This Thomas was grandson of Rowland and Mary.

We are continuing to uncover snippets of the families tale in time.
Regards
Randall
