To be consistent with its origin of Bahais, Normandy, France, the bay in question would not be the usual bay of water. But rather it would be bay, as in any level land area making an indentation, as into a woods, range of hills, etc.(i.e., valley). Or bay, as in a recess in a wall, as for a window (i.e., den or cave). The word "cove" encompasses both of these meanings.
