A gedcom I downloaded when I first started lists Henry Major Mumford Baugh b. 5 Jun 1794, as a son of Josiah Hatcher and Milly Shepherd Baugh. According to the same file, Bartholomew, another of Josiah and Millie's sons (and my ggg-grandfather), had a son named Major Henry Baugh, b. 1 Sep 1813, d. 15 Sep 1813.
My own research doesn't go back that far yet. But it looks like both names you mention may have been used in the family, with the younger being named a variant of his Uncle's name.
