Bauer in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI
On 11 Aug 1914 Archie Heath Turk m. Hulda (or Hilda) unknown in East Peru, Madison County, Iowa. This information comes from Hulda's divorce record in Outagamie County, Wisconsin dated 1921. She also reported that she was 40 yo (in 1921) and born in Waupaca County, Wisconsin.
Archie was my grandmother's younger brother. He m1 Lulu Mackrill but both their two infant sons and Lulu died (by 1909). This is a matter of family tradition supported by census and cemetery records.
Both family tradition and census support the existence of his second marriage to Hulda. The 1920 and 1930 Wisconsin census reported two sons for Archie: Arthur Turk b. ca 1915 and Harold b. ca 1914. Living with Hulda at that time was a daughter, Mildred, b. ca 1908. This child obviously from an earlier marriage even though in that census she is called 'Turk'.
In 1930 Hulda Turk was living in the household of Ruben Poetter (Director of a bank) as a servant living on East Royall Place between Prospect and Farwell in Milwaukee. Her two sons, Harold about 16 yo and Arthur about 15 yo, are nowhere to be seen. Nor is her daughter Mildred to be found although she would have been 22 yo and likely married.
I thought that was the end of it until recently I found Hulda and her son, Arthur, listed in the 1936 Appleton, Outagmie County, Wisconsin City Directory. They were living in a house with widower ANTON BAUER who was close to Hulda's age and who also had parents b. Germany. It is possible that this was Hulda's brother???? I can find no clues that he was.
Based on other city directory records ANTON BAUER had lived on Lawrence St. in Appleton since at least 1892. He was a 'laborer' and/or a 'baker'.
Can anyone help me with finding Arthur and Harold Turk and to know more about Hulda?
