While researching my Great-Grandmother's line I found mention of her adopting her sister Cornelia Wilhelm's son.
It seems that Cornelia Wilhelm b. May 30, 1865 in WI was married to John B. Bauer in Marshfield, Wood, Wisconsin. They had all three of their children born in Marshfield, WI:
Agnes Kunigunda Bauer b. Sept. 25, 1884
Margretta Mary Bauer b. June 11, 1886
George Henry Bauer b. March 30, 1888
Cornelia died 2.5 months after the birth of her son George.
Newspaper accounts state that Mary Margaret Wilhelm-Cramer adopted her nephew George.
She was a young widow struggling to raise her own 5 children when she took George in.
I would be happy to share any information I have on this family with descendents of George. I do not know what happened to John Bauer and his other two daughters.
