My great grandfather has been listed as Meredith Myles Baucom by many out there. All I have known him as was Maridy/Merdie Baucom. Where does the Meredith Myles come from? I can find no proof of either name. He is listed in the 1860 Perry County, TN census as Maridy, the name Marida was a popular male name during that time period in TN. In the 1870 Perry County, TN and the 1880 Lavaca County, TX census he is listed as M. Baucom. On a marriage license in Frio County, TX he is listed as M. Wm. Baucom when he married Saphronia Gunn. On his death certificate from Brown County, TX, he is listed as Mertie Baucom. Mertie/Merdie/Maridy supports the Marida name as opposed to Meredith and the marriage license lends support to William as his middle name. Was he Meredith Myles and what proof is there of it or was he Marida William Baucom son of Nicholas and Martha Baucom? Can anyone help me on this?
