I am not related to these people, but I have a booklet
"Carolina Trees & Branches" from 1994 which has a short article about them:
John Battle patented 200 acres in Nansemond on the western branch of the Nansemond River, 14 Dec 1654, for transportation of himself & wife Elizabeth & 2 others. He joined the southward trek of this colony to Carolina & patented 640 acres 'on the westward side of Paspetanke River beginning at a point of land which parts his land & land of Mrs. Forsten.' On 28 Nove 1694, Lawrence Mageo & wife Mary were listed as guardians of William Battle, son & heir of John Battle, brought suit against Richard Pope alleging that in 1691 he entered a plantation of 227 acres belonging to William Battle lying on Pasquotank on New Begin (Begun) Creek."
