Haywood Porter (b. 1824, NC; d. 1897 TX) married
Pricilla BATTLE (b. abt 1830) and produced at
least the following four children: Hannah, Jane,
and Joyner BATTLE, and George Hezekiah PORTER (my
G Grandfather). They are from Edgecombe County,
NC.
The BATTLE kids were (according to my grandmother)
light-skinned Negroes who "went up North to pass
[as white]". Anyone have any additional info about
the Edgecombe Co. Battles?
