To Latoya Battle Brown:
Susan is correct in pointing you to Nash County, & Rocky Mount NC. to search for Battle roots. My family is also from Nash County, NC. I am the grand-daughter of Harold Battle Sr. born June 1910. His parents were John Battle and Patsy Battle - Patsy was already a Battle when she married John. Patsy was the daughter of the slave owner's son (Lucian Battle?). She was born in 1874 or 1876 and died in 1974. She had 9 children by John before he died in 1919 from either the flu or yellow fever (not sure). John owned quite a bit of land (some of which is still in the family) and was the principal of the "colored" high school. He was also a preacher and before his death was to go on tour with W. E. B. DuBois in Europe. My Grandfather's sister - Lillian Battle, is rumored to have traced the family back to Napolean Bonaparte - France. One of my Grandfather's brothers was named Napolean Bonaparte Battle. We called him Buster (for obvious reasons :-) ). I did some family research years ago. I need to search through some storage boxes to find it all. It would not surpise me to find a connection between our families. However, there are two African American Families with the sur name Battle in Nash County - our families were all from the same (family of) Slave owners - they were the Battles that owned the Mill in Battlesboro / Rocky Mount, NC. There is a book on [that] Battle Family in the NY Public Library. Please reply.
