My third-great-uncle, John Birdwell Isbell (1830-1904) married Martha Battle (Battles), born c1834 either in AL. or Texas. He was born in Jackson Co., Alabama, son of Rev. Levi Isbell and Sarah H. (Birdwell) Isbell, sister of Col. Allen Birdwell who went to TX by the 1840s and whose home in Rusk Co., TX. is a museum today. John Birdwell Isbell died 28 JAN 1904 in Timpson, Shelby Co., TX. Martha Battle(s) was his second wife. His first wife was Martha Jane Jones. Not sure whether he married Martha Battle in Alabama or Texas, but possibly Jackson Co./Dekalb Co. or Marshall Co., Alabama.
