I have a small gap that I am trying fill.
My Grandfather Signed his WWI registration card as William Allen Battey in 1917 . He was married about A year later 1918 as William Allen Roberts to a Beatrice V. Knight. I beleive in Scituate R.I.
I have found evidence that a Jessie E. Rafuse married a William Russell Battey in Lynn, Essex Mass. January 07, 1894 they had one daughter Nancy Gladys. There is no mention of a divorce. Jessie E. Rafuse married again to a Chauncey Asa Roberts February 10, 1902 North Smithfield R.I. My Grand Father William Allen Battey/Roberts was born October 24, 1897.
I beleive that William Russel Battey's parents were John H. Battey and Nancy H. with children with Mabel F. and John H. Jr.
I will probably never find out why the name change.
1910 Census for RI Chauncey A. Roberts. Jessie E, Willam A as son and Nancy Gladys as step daughter? I know this may not make any sense. I hope that someone out there may help point me in the right direction.
I know that I need to send for the marriage and birth records for William R. Battey and Jessie E. Rafuse.
Thanks for any help in this.
Don't know if I'm going Battey or what.
