Seeking any information on my great-grandfather or his ancestors. He was John Dawlphin Batten of Thomasville, NC b. 9 Dec 1965, d. 20 Feb 1939. Wife was Nancy Ann "Annie" Blake b. 10 Feb 1873, d. 3 Feb 1922. Believe John's parents were Daniel & Celia Batten (Celia's maiden name unknown.) Think John had brothers, Henry, W.T., & Charly & a sister Eliza Jane "Lizzie" who married Tom L.Morton. John & wife had 10 children, sons: Hubert Lee, Ernest Melvin, Carey Hunter, Barnie Keiffer, George Johnson, John David & Robert Walser Batten & daughters: Cornie Dew (m. Richard C. Shoemaker), Nellie Hazel (m. Andrew Johnson) & Essie Fair Batten (unmarried). John & family lived in Troy, Montgomery Co,NC prior to moving to Thomasville, Davidson Co, NC - they are noted with 4 children in the 1900 census in Troy. His obituary says he was a native of Rockingham - not sure if that was Rockingham (the city) in Richmond Co NC or Rockingham Co, NC. Any info appreciated.
