I may have a BATTEN connection in the same locality but about 100 years later:

My Great Grandmother Alice May BATTEN (b 2 Sep 1869 Devonport; d 30 Aug 1948 Twickenham) married 2 Jan 1893 at Belmont Wesleyan Chapel, Stoke Damerel, Devonport to Ernest Gapes TICKNER.
– I understood church records were destroyed during the war.

Her Father was Caleb b BATTEN b about 1824 Devonport and he married Selina SMALL (assumed to be her previous married name): b about 1830 Guernsey

Other chidren listed were
Georgina SMALL b about 1850
Selina SMALL b 1854
Henry (Harry) SMALL b about 1856
Caleb BATTEN b about 1863
Emma BATTEN b about 1864
