Hi, Brian!
I am from Cedar Falls, Iowa, USA. My GGrandfather was a Batey, George William. His father's nm.
was John Batey. [There is some question abt. the sp. of Batey]. It is said that John immigrated
from Ire. at abt. 12 yrs. of age as a bonded servant. Apparently, his father had died leaving behind
a large fam. The only other things we know abt. him is that apparently he married. My GGrandfather
was born in OH. It is not known whether they were passing through or were actually living there, as
my GGrandfather enlisted in the Civil War in IA and came back to IA to marry, raise a fam., die, and
be buried.
