Dear Terry,
Thank you so much for getting back to me.I'm trying to put together some family history for my nephew and niece, but -- as you probably know better than I -- there are gaps; so I cannot hope to finish this year.Raymond was doing well when my father, Durwood Nails, died 1 September 2006; Raymond wrote to me then and had seen my father often in the years before his death.
My family Bible has a Louvenia (or "Aunt Dink") as the daughter of Mason N. Nail and Louvenia Bates (born in Kentucky). That information came from my great-grandmother, Novella Frances Kellogg (Nails), wife of Barney, whom I knew into my twenties (she stayed sharp until her death in 1973).I understand that your information is different:you have Louisa Jane as the wife of Mason.Something I have noticed on these genealogy sites is that, if a person is known by a nickname for many years and the time comes to put a full name in a record or on a tombstone, the remaining family members are uncertain what the original full name was.Any woman called "Lou" for many years might have been a Louisa or a Louvenia (or a Louise, or a Louvicy, or...), though the middle name of 'Jane' gives some extra weight to the supposition.Do you remember where you found the name 'Louisa Jane' as the wife of Mason?(I almost never note my own sources, but am realizing that I should.)
I have often thought that someone living close to Holley Springs should take some notes and make some tombstone rubbings before the weather washes the old inscriptions away. But neither you nor I live close.
Many thanks, again, for replying to my query.
Best wishes,
Debra
