Margaret and Cousin Wayne I have the Last Will of Gilbert Bates, written Aug. 2, 1836 and filed for probate Mar. 11, 1837. Rachel was still living at this time. Daniel the youngest son was left the house and land, so he could take care of Rachel. I have been to Shelby Co. IN., the land was about 1/4 mile from the Blue River Baptist Church Cem. where Daniel is buried, (May 29, 1849) and his son Ephraim Cephus Bates (Sep 24, 1847) was buried. My guess is, Gilbert and Rachel were buried here also. There are other older unreadable broken stones next to Daniel and his son's grave.
Lewis Noble Bates died Jan. 4, 1915, and his wife Nancy died Jun. 1, 1913, both are buried at Rago, Kingman Co., KS.
Happy to call you cousin Margaret, I decend from John Nelson Bates, older brother to Lewis Noble Bates.
Please get in touch and we will compare notes.
