Frank:
If you will go backward from that Clement Bates just a little bit you will discover a John Isaac Bates that immigrated to Jamestown, Va before Clement and James immigrated to Mass. From John about two generations later there is a William Bates that moved to the pendletion district of South Carolina. His two sons moved from there with Royal Bates moving to Kentucky and Stephen Bates moving to Georgia. There were several in this line that made a move to Arkansas with some dropping off in Alabama of which is notible Thomas Royal Bates in western Cullman County.I have a very large gedcom file that is sorely incomplete on this family since it is not my primary search line, so far, as I can only take my ancestry back to about 1800 arrival in Charleston SC for John "C." Bates.I believe sooner or later I may find that his father, Thomas Bates, may be from this line but from the upper part of England (Lincolnshire?) where Clement Bates was born and is reported to have departed from London with his entire family along with a cousin Robert Bates/family and there is a later reference of an Edward Bates that may have been on the same ship or shortly afterwards.I will check the names you list to see if I can connect them somewhere in my listings.che-ers
