Trying to get in touch with Stephen Hambright or Laurie Hays Coffman....note sent yesterday but was returned on both.
While filling in some of the blanks last night on James Madison Bates, I noticed you had quite a bit on William, his oldest son. Are you in touch with any of the descends from his line? If so, are they planning on submitting a DNA sample? Since we are a family of 7 girls, there is no way our DNA is exceptable. I have ask a cousin in the direct line of James Fulford Bates for the honor of his DNA. Whis his sample, hopefully, we will know what branch our line is connected if any. Also William's move from Missouri to Arkansas, then Texas explains why we were always told we had family in Texas. One of the last conversations I had with William's niece, my Aunt Lyda, was that William and John, older brothers to my James Fulford her father, were in Texas. So think what I may, the old folks knew more what they were talking about than I gave them credit for when they were alive.
There was someone else, Laurie Hays Coffman, working on Robert Lee Bates and Lillie Belle I/Erwin. She list a couple of additional children....I have tried to put then in some order.

That makes 11 children if I combine your post with Laurie Hays Coffman. I tried to contact her last night, but mail came back...address no longer good.

DNA test will help get us from point A-Z, but old fashion
research is the only way to know more about those who's names are listed on aged census reports.
